Enable Your Rig Crews to Drill Faster with Corva

Directional drillers, rig crews, and onsite company men are on the front line when it comes to drilling optimization.  By equipping them with Corva’s analytics, minute-to-minute decisions can be guided by optimal information, shaving time off of connections, minimizing slides, and maximizing ROP.

Connection Time Scoreboard

Reducing connection time starts with a clear view of past performance.  Corva’s weight-to-weight app keeps track of connection intervals, slips, and on-bottom times.  Deploy this app on a fleet of rigs and the game is on!  Crews that can compare their daily connection times to that of other rigs have that extra incentive to outdo each other.

What’s the value of saving a minute on every connection?  Almost $10,000 per well if we assume 190 connections and a rig day rate of $75k.  That’s about $1M for 100 wells, so having that scoreboard of connection times can be a big win for optimizing spending.

Minimizing Slide Percentage

For every well, there is an optimal balance between rotary drilling and sliding.  Directional drilling relies heavily on sliding to maintain hole direction; however, sliding adds extra tortuosity to the wellbore. This can have a negative impact on completion and production efficiency, as well as slow down the well’s forward progress.  Corva has two powerful apps that are used every day on the rig to optimize sliding time while keeping the wellbore path on target.

Our Rotary Trend Analysis app correlates drilling parameters with the build and turn rates of the BHA.  This enables drillers to achieve the desired wellbore path by maximizing rotary intervals while minimizing the need to slide.

Using GTF and MTF data, Corva’s Toolface vs. Measured Depth app provides real-time insight into the toolface consistency during a slide.  By monitoring the active toolface consistency against a 5 ft rolling average, drillers can proactively correct course during a slide, minimizing ineffective toolface control.
